Sun International Group

Sun International consolidates and modernises connectivity platforms and data centre functionality with a cohesive connectivity solution

Sun International Group is a South African gaming and hospitality company with a diverse portfolio, including world-class five-star hotels, modern and well-located casinos, and some of the world’s finest premier resorts. Specialising in gaming, hospitality and entertainment, the company owns 42.5% of the South African casino market and owns or holds a significant interest in 11 out of 38 operating casinos in South Africa. Their destinations offer experiential luxury, enduring quality, and incredible adventure, supported by an authentic dedication to personal service.

Challenge

  • The hotel chain required Software Defined – Wide Area Network (SD-WAN) connectivity, relocation of its data centre, and modernisation of its Access Point Name (APN) and telephony services. The company was still working with its legacy Multiprotocol Label Switching (MPLS) network across its properties in South Africa, and its data centre was poorly managed and limited in structure and scale. It was necessary to consolidate the company’s connectivity services into one outsourced service provider and relocate the data centre to a world-class
  • facility.

Solution

  • Liquid embarked on strategically reimagining the company’s connectivity infrastructure and data centre architecture. Initially anticipated to take between six and 12 months, this was an ambitious project, particularly considering the magnitude of the change. Despite the momentous task, Liquid was determined to provide the organisation with best-in-class connectivity and infrastructure within the set timeframe to ensure minimum downtime and maximum impact. Throughout the process, Liquid prioritised the commercial business case while reducing the risk of additional costs for the company. The project faced various challenges as it moved towards the finish line, but Liquid deftly navigated through the teething problems to deliver a robust solution that met the client’s customised needs.

Result

  • Not only was the APN and telephony solution deployed to meet the customer’s business needs, but they were also able to realise savings within the first six months of implementation. The company also now benefits from dual redundant connectivity, which was installed by Liquid. This allows the company to rely on a single service provider with a centralised Service Level Agreement (SLA), ensuring a more strategic relationship for the company that delivers value for its long-term growth and stability.

Customer Testimonial

“Over the last three years, Liquid has certainly ticked the boxes when it comes to strategic relationships. We run one of the largest golfing tournaments in Africa, called the Nedbank Golf Challenge and since we’ve partnered with Liquid, in terms of the infrastructure they provide, they’ve been a key strategic partner.”
